Jeremiah 20
Now PashhurH6583, the sonH1121 of ImmerH564 the priestH3548, who was chiefH6496 officerH5057 in the houseH1004 of JehovahH3068, heardH8085 JeremiahH3414 prophesyingH5012 these thingsH1697.
Then PashhurH6583 smoteH5221 JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, and putH5414 him in the stocksH4115 that were in the upperH5945 gateH8179 of BenjaminH1144, which was in the houseH1004 of JehovahH3068.
And it came to pass on the morrowH4283, that PashhurH6583 brought forthH3318 JeremiahH3414 out of the stocksH4115. Then saidH559 JeremiahH3414 unto him, JehovahH3068 hath not calledH7121 thy nameH8034 PashhurH6583, but Magor-missabibH4036.
For thus saithH559 JehovahH3068, Behold, I will makeH5414 thee a terrorH4032 to thyself, and to all thy friendsH157; and they shall fallH5307 by the swordH2719 of their enemiesH341, and thine eyesH5869 shall beholdH7200 it; and I will giveH5414 all JudahH3063 into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and he shall carry them captiveH1540 to BabylonH894, and shall slayH5221 them with the swordH2719.
Moreover I will giveH5414 all the richesH2633 of this cityH5892, and all the gainsH3018 thereof, and all the precious thingsH3366 thereof, yea, all the treasuresH214 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 will I giveH5414 into the handH3027 of their enemiesH341; and they shall make them a preyH962, and takeH3947 them, and carryH935 them to BabylonH894.
And thou, PashhurH6583, and all that dwellH3427 in thy houseH1004 shall goH3212 into captivityH7628; and thou shalt comeH935 to BabylonH894, and there thou shalt dieH4191, and there shalt thou be buriedH6912, thou, and all thy friendsH157, to whom thou hast prophesiedH5012 falselyH8267.
O JehovahH3068, thou hast persuadedH6601 me, and I was persuadedH6601; thou art strongerH2388 than I, and hast prevailedH3201: I am become a laughing-stockH7814 all the dayH3117, every one mockethH3932 me.
For as oftenH1767 as I speakH1696, I cryH7121 outH2199; I cryH7121, ViolenceH2555 and destruction! because the wordH1697 of JehovahH3068 is made a reproachH2781 unto me, and a derisionH7047, all the dayH3117.
And if I sayH559, I will not make mentionH2142 of him, nor speakH1696 any more in his nameH8034, then there is in my heartH3820 as it were a burningH1197 fireH784 shut upH6113 in my bonesH6106, and I am wearyH3811 with forbearingH3557, and I cannotH3201 contain.
For I have heardH8085 the defamingH1681 of manyH7227, terrorH4032 on every sideH5439. DenounceH5046, and we will denounceH5046 him, say all my familiarH582 friends, they that watchH8104 for my fallH6763; peradventure he will be persuadedH6601, and we shall prevailH3201 against him, and we shall takeH3947 our revengeH5360 on him.
But JehovahH3068 is with me as a mightyH1368 oneH6184 and a terrible: therefore my persecutorsH7291 shall stumbleH3782, and they shall not prevailH3201; they shall be utterlyH3966 put to shameH954, because they have not dealt wiselyH7919, even with an everlastingH5769 dishonorH3639 which shall never be forgottenH7911.
But, O JehovahH3068 of hostsH6635, that triestH974 the righteousH6662, that seestH7200 the heartH3629 and the mindH3820, let me seeH7200 thy vengeanceH5360 on them; for unto thee have I revealedH1540 my causeH7379.
SingH7891 unto JehovahH3068, praiseH1984 ye JehovahH3068; for he hath deliveredH5337 the soulH5315 of the needyH34 from the handH3027 of evil-doersH7489.
CursedH779 be the dayH3117 wherein I was bornH3205: let not the dayH3117 wherein my motherH517 bareH3205 me be blessedH1288.
CursedH779 be the manH376 who brought tidingsH1319 to my fatherH1, sayingH559, AH2145 man-childH1121 is bornH3205 unto thee; making him veryH8055 gladH8055.
And let that manH376 be as the citiesH5892 which JehovahH3068 overthrewH2015, and repentedH5162 not: and let him hearH8085 a cryH2201 in the morningH1242, and shoutingH8643 at noontimeH6256;
because he slewH4191 me not from the wombH7358; and so my motherH517 would have been my graveH6913, and her wombH7358 alwaysH5769 greatH2030.
Wherefore came I forthH3318 out of the wombH7358 to seeH7200 laborH5999 and sorrowH3015, that my daysH3117 should be consumedH3615 with shameH1322?
