can we give them a hand one more time? Guys, we made it to chapter three of Ephesians. Can you believe it? We made it there. But if you have your Bibles, turn with me to Ephesians chapter three. We're going to tackle verses one through six today. But before we do, I want to tell you, one of the most unique things happened to me. I might have been maybe a year ago at the gym. I was sitting there in between one of the classes, and this older gentleman, he came to the front door, and he came inside. I guess he had just gotten his hair cut at the barbershop right beside us. And he came in, and he just starts kind of looking around like, hey, can I help you? All this stuff.
And so we're talking, and I'm showing him stuff, and I'm thinking, this guy's going to ask me about silver sneakers, and if we have it, and all this stuff. But he just keeps talking to me. And then I realized, he was asking me about the gym, that he wasn't really there to ask me about the gym. He started like, I realized, he's like, okay, this guy's definitely witnessing to me right now. I am at the beginning of his pitch to witness. But the thing is, what's unique about it is that he pulled out this gold chain and this gold hoop ring, and he's just holding it. I'm like, what is this guy doing? Blaze, you remember this guy? Yeah, right? Yeah. And so I'm like, is he going to give me jewelry? I don't know what's going on. But he starts just talking about his life, and how bad it was, and the mistakes he had made, and all this stuff. And he takes the ring and puts it between the necklace, and he just drops the ring. And the ring drops to the ground and falls.
He said, and this is what my life was like, and this is exactly where I was headed with my life. I was just straight to hell in that ring. He does it like five times. This ring hits the ground. We got concrete floors. I'm like, bro, chill, dude. Don't mess these things up. I just stained them, dude. But it just keeps going to the ground. And he says, but you know what? God, who just loves me so much, and he drops it again. And for some way, shape, or form, it snags, and it just dangles there. It doesn't fall to the ground. He just snagged me, and he grabbed me. As I was going straight to hell, he just grabbed me out of nowhere. And I was like, okay, you know what? Cool. I want to know how you did that. I was like, this magician dude just comes in out of nowhere, and begins to witness him. It's like, man, all these years, we spent time going door to door, asking people if they were going to heaven. I didn't know I could be a magician in the process. I would have chose that route instead. But I was like, at that point, I was like, this is great. So then he asked me if I knew today, like if I died, like where I was going. Like, yeah, man. I was like, actually, I've been following Jesus since I was 13, and I'm so thankful for who he is in my life. And then, so the conversation switched. But the cool thing is, is he then, like, he showed me how to do the trick. Because ultimately, I was like, yeah, this is great, but I want to know how you did that thing. And then he gave me my own gold chain. I wish I brought it today, but y'all would have asked me to perform the trick, and then I would have been too much pressure. But he gave me the chain and the ring. And he said, here, like, maybe you want to do this at some point in time. That joker leaves the room, or he leaves the gym. And do you know what the first thing I did was? I walked next door to the barbershop, and I tried to lead Blaze to the Lord. I think it worked, because he's here today. But it was like, once I knew, I was like, okay, I know how to do this. I've got to go show somebody how to do this magic trick, okay?
And that's kind of why we themed this series, Ta-Da. Because you're like, once you realize something, like, you're like, ta-da, here it is, right? And that's kind of like what Paul is doing at the beginning of Ephesians chapter 3, all right? And so I want to read the scripture to us. So hopefully you're there. Verse 1 says this, I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, on behalf of you Gentiles, assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for you, how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. When you read this, you can perceive my insights into the mystery of Christ. Hopefully you see a few words that are kind of popping up a few times. Mystery right here. Which was not made known to me by the sons of men and other generations, and it has now been revealed to me by the apostles and prophets by the Spirit. This mystery is, you ready? Ta-da moment, okay? This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. So for the next few weeks, we will kind of want these ta-da or aha moments. And that's what Paul is trying to reveal in these instances.
Like, hey, look, this mystery of Christ, I'm going to reveal, it's been revealed, to me, and I want to let you in on this. And this is not like a mystery, like, hmm, we've got to like solve a crime or solve something to that degree. It was just a deeper understanding of what God was already doing. And this was very prevalent during this time as well. Like, the deepest things of God were only meant for, like, the most superior or the most elite. And Paul, in this instance, kind of turns these things upside down. He said, hey, look, I'm not like keeping it to myself because I spend more time with God he's like I want to let you in on what this mystery that Christ revealed to me is which is kind of unheard of at this time and so I don't know about you guys but I'm thankful that Paul's like hey I want to let you in on this mystery and what is that mystery right but before we get into that I want to take a small detour because Paul says something at the very beginning of of this chapter that I really do feel is prevalent and important for us today like going through the worship said in the beginning and even Jonathan during prayer this morning he encouraged all of us that were here praying that like like hey like what you would normally pray for yourself for God like to see God like do in your life I want you to flip that I want you to start praying that over the house and Paul says something here that I really think is important at the very beginning verse one says this for this reason I Paul comma he doesn't just say who he is he says this a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles and Paul is not like saying this is like a cool little title or hey this little side thing that was like figuratively now this was literally Paul was a prisoner during this time he was in prison by the emperor Nero which was over the Roman Empire he was a prisoner in chains not like so we read these different moments where I'm like you could say like I'm a slave to Christ or I'm I'm in these chains so he was literally in chains like some of you say man I just feel like I'm not bound up or I'm in bondage you know like we know that's not really true Paul in this instance was literally imprisoned right and he's writing this but what he says here is super important because he says I'm Paul a prisoner of who of Christ Does that mean that Christ really had him in prison, like in chains, like he was in Jesus's jail? No, that's not what he was saying. But he also didn't say, I, Paul, a prisoner of Rome. What he's saying is, I, Paul, I am a prisoner. Christ has me here. And I think there's something really important in this small detour. I'm not gonna take much of my time to talk about it, but a small detour about suffering. And you need to know this. If you come into the room, this was my prayer for a lot of folks this morning. If you came into the room full of like just suffering, you're kind of like, you're going through it. And maybe it's not like a new going through it. Maybe you've been going through it for some time, for a few months or a few years. Maybe you haven't let many folks in on that suffering and you feel the weight of that stuff. I just want you to know, and this is what Paul's encouragement here is, is that God is sovereign over your suffering. What that means is, God is above your suffering. That in your stuff, in your suffering, whatever it is, your pain, your sorrow, whatever it is, God is with you in it. And he's working through those things. Paul is like literally in jail and he's not blaming his suffering. He's seeing God at work in those things. And look, I'll be honest with you. The last two years of my life, I really have been in suffering hard. Some of you know, I feel like, I try to not keep it too hidden, but sometimes I do, but it's been tough all across the board, home, personal, mental. I would just, I'd be exhausted on days. Business for sure. And I would try to get as much stuff as I could do, but like some days, like literally I would lay on the couch. Still, look, I'm not even past it. Don't you love when people talk about suffering, but they're on the other side of it? I'm still like in the, in the, like in it, right? Just like, just laying on the couch. I have no energy, no, I remember going to Oklahoma this week. Like my hope was like, God, I, I really do. I would love for you to deal with some stuff in my life. Cause I, I, the words I told Aaron and a few others was like, I can't live next year like this last year.
And maybe you've said that. And if you've, if you feel that, like I can't live this, this next year, like your situation may not change. Mine didn't, mine has not changed, right? But the mindset shift really needs to be there. That, that, that revelation that God is with you. God is sovereign over your suffering. Cause then you can see that God is working things through that. Because in our day and age, our, our psychology is very individualistic. And it's like, okay, like at the end of the day, like if you were to go and see a counselor and stuff, they were like, okay, you're in suffering. How do we make you stronger in that suffering? How do we, how do you come out on the other side? And the truth is, it's really not about me. It's really not about you in this. It's really not about, but what is God trying to work out in his life? So in you as well, the point of understanding that God is sovereign over your suffering is God is wanting to work something out of you for him, for him, not for you. I'm thankful that at some point on the other side of this, that God will work something out of me. And, and maybe I might get some relief, but maybe I don't. But I'm thankful that my hope is in this, that, that God will work, work something so that he, his glory is put on display. It makes you think about suffering a little different. I know you're not going to like tap that tab disc and say, sign me up for suffering. I understand that. I get it. But if you're in that space, my prayer really is today that you would see it differently. You say, God, I'm still here in it, but I know you're over this. And that you are working something out for you. So many times in our suffering, we really do think like, God, what are you trying to work out in me? But my encouragement, my prayer for you is that you would ask God, like, God, what are you trying to work out of this for you in your glory? Okay. All right. Does it make sense? All right.
We're off the detour and we're back on the road. Okay. Let's talk about these mysteries. I didn't want to, it's like, here's the thing that Ephesians, like we talked about, we want to go like with this four course meal. Is it four course, 10, 12 course, 12 course meal. I've never, I'm not that fancy. I've never had 12 course meal. It's normally like an appetizer from Applebee's and then an entree and a dessert at most. Right. Anyways, come on guys. Let's laugh it up a little bit. Applebee's. That's funny. Who eats Applebee's? Come on. Anyways. All right. Well, what I love so much about Ephesians is you, you really, like there's so much and we don't want to skim over things to get to the other things. There's a lot in there. And maybe that was for some of you in the house today.
All right. So let's, let's get into this, this mystery, what the mystery actually is. All right. Because what it shows is this mystery wasn't small and it costs. Honestly, the mystery is what costs Paul his freedom because he says, I'm a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you who Gentiles us non-Jews, the Gentiles. Paul is in jail for Christ on behalf of Gentiles. But what is the mystery? It's, it's this is verse six. This mystery is circle highlight. Mystery is, and then right beside it, big arrow to that. The Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. Now I'll spend a few, a whole sermon just a few weeks ago on the importance of, and the ramifications of Jews and Gentiles don't coexist. They don't get along. They don't do the stuff. And I'm not going to re preach that message. So it points you to go back and listen to it. But the big deal is this is still crazy town. It's worth repeating. He's like, Hey, look, the mystery of Christ and the power of the gospel is that now Gentiles are co-heirs with us. They're fellow heirs, members of the same body, not a different side body, but the same body and their partakers in the promise of Christ Jesus. We, we see this again. Genesis chapter 12 is in your notes. It's not going to be on the screen, but verses one through three, this was Paul talking to Abraham, not Paul. This is God talking to Abraham. Now the Lord said to Abram, go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make you a great nation and I will bless you and I will make your name great so that you will be a blessing. And I will bless those who bless you and him who dishonors you. I will curse. And in you, here it is. All the families of the earth shall be blessed, not just Jews, but us Gentiles as well. This is where most theologians would say that the gospel was preached to Abraham. Because at this time, Abraham, the Jewish, like the Jews did not exist. Abraham was not a Jew, right? So the gospel of Jesus was preached to Abraham in this moment. Abraham understood it through the mystery being revealed, right? If we go over, the Galatians, this is Paul talking to a whole nother group of people, not just the Ephesians, but a whole nother group. And it says this, there is neither Galatians three 28. There is neither Jew nor Greek. There is neither slave nor free. There is no male and female for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Isn't that good that God's bringing us all together? One people. Now, we really want to get into this in just a second, because sometimes we get, yeah, that's great trace, but I really want, I want us to understand what Paul is really trying to say here. Cause Colossians. So another group, he's talked to the church at Ephesus and Galatia. And now, and to the Colossians, he's saying this verse one or chapter one, verses 26 through 27, the mystery hidden for ages and generations, but now revealed to his saints to them. God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you. The hope of glory. The church was, not a plan B of God. It was always the plan. And he was working his plan this whole time.
I think this is really important for us to hear, especially in 2026, because the hot topic is church, Jew, Jewish, all the different stuff. And I really want to bring some like clarity and some understanding into these things. God has fulfilled the covenant. He's fulfilled the promise preached Abraham through Jesus Christ. And it's fulfilled. Does that replace covenant? No, it doesn't replace covenant with the Jews, but it fulfills the covenant so that we can all come to come to God through Jesus have to come to God through Jesus. There is no other way. It's good for us to know that.
But the truth, the family of God are those who come to God through Christ. So when we read the Old Testament and we see God working in a specific people, we can see that that is a foreshadow to the church that is today and we can see it's the same God. He's doing the same things and he wants us. He wants us in his in his existence in his life. He's got a plan. He's doing things through us, but he has brought us together and it's always been his heart, not just for a particular people group, but to bring us all into his family. God wants us in his family. He really does. And I think, I think about like today, like because ultimately it comes down to this, right? Is that we unity is through Christ alone and God knows that. And so through the cross, he unites all people, all of us. And I think about why is that important? Because if we're being honest, like we really do want unity and peace in our world, right? We do. We absolutely want unity and peace. We want it, whether it be like, and the, but the thing is, are we looking to the right place where unity and peace come from? Because the only place that it comes through, and Paul just says it in the scripture is through Christ and the cross. There is no other way. And I think where we struggle is, is sometimes we look for other places and other ways to find that unity, right? In our home. We want peace and unity, right?
We don't want to live lives where we, where spouses hate each other or kids, kids hate their parents like we, we want unity and peace, but where are we looking for unity and peace in the home? Is it in our income? Is it in the place that we live? Is it, are we in the right school district? Are we doing the right things or do we have the right family time? Is the vibe right, right? We can look beyond Christ for unity in the home, right? But, but the truth is the only place where unity can come into the home is through Christ. The only way that I can serve my wife and do the dishes is through Christ. And she's like, please let that mystery be revealed to you in the name of Jesus. Me too. Right? It's the only way. And sometimes we're hopeful. Man, if my, if my husband would just read the right book or if my wife would just listen to the right podcast, she would see me for who I truly am. And we would just, things would be better in our life.
Come on guys. We've done it before. Unity in the home is only through Christ. Because what we're looking for, and I've got more examples, but ultimately what we're, the only thing that can solve this problem is Christ deals with sin. The only way unity and peace can come to the world is through Christ. Because if not, it's all because of sin. What does sin do? Sin separates, sin divides. Sin is what makes me care about myself more than anyone else. And the only thing that can deal with sin is the cross. Right? A cross, a podcast can't deal with sin. A book cannot deal with sin, a job and more money, right? It cannot deal with sin. The only thing that can is Christ. But beyond the home, we see it in our world. We hope that the, that a new president would be put in place and bring peace to our world. We hope that we can pass a piece of policy or legislation, and that would be the thing that brings peace to our nation. Brings peace to the world. We hope that we can get through war times and bring peace. But here's the thing. None of those things deal with what matters. None of those things deal with the heart. None of those things deal with sin. What is the only thing that deals with sin? Christ. Christ deals with it. So where are we looking for a hope of peace and a hope of unity? Where are we looking for it? Are we hoping? Are we putting our hope and our expectation in?
Another leader or a raise, right? Are we looking for those places?
Are we truly looking to Christ? Because that's where the unity comes from. That's where peace comes from. And that's what Paul is trying to say here is like, Hey, look, God has torn down the wall. The barrier is what he says of hostility between people. How much hostility do we, a Matt preached about it just a few weeks ago, the hostility we are at a, we are at a a bullying point in our world, people hostile with each other. The only thing that can change that really is Christ transforming our lives and dealing with sin in our own lives. It can only deal with me. Christ can only deal with you. And then through that, you, you're transformed. God tears down the hostility, these barriers that separate us because he wants to bring a multi-ethnic multi-racial. He wants. to bring these people together, multi-political, multi-socioeconomic statuses, together. He wants to do that, but here's the thing, not in some hippy-dippy weird way where everything, everybody gets to say, and you get to do whatever you want. That is not what Paul is saying, and that really is kind of where our church, or not our church, but where our culture is pointing us to, right? We want unity. We want peace, but we don't want it the way God has designed it, and we see it in our world. Our world is longing for acceptance. Our world is longing for peace, but they are saying, we don't want it your way, God. The only way is through Christ. It's the only way, and I hope we can see that.
I really do. This is not something, and here's the thing, this is not something that's far off into the future, like one day. man, when Jesus comes back, then we'll finally have that. Yes, we absolutely will, when Jesus comes back, have that. But he's not, he doesn't have it like capped off, like, hey guys, one day it'll be like this. Our belief, our eschatology is that, and that's just belief of the end times and how things end. Like, we do believe that Jesus does come back and he makes all things new. But in the meantime, the wheat and the harvest grows together, the chaff grows together at the same time. What does that mean? Because I know y'all are not all farmers in the room. It just means that the good and bad grow in tandem with each other. That means that while God is absolutely transforming our lives, and some of you, your lives have been so transformed by the power of God, but then you turn on the TV or you scroll X and you see another war or someone, else dead or someone else angry, both grow at the same time. That's the belief until the end, when Jesus comes back and makes all things new. But here's the thing, they both happen in tandem with each other. God's kingdom is at work in the world right now. It's moving right now. We're hopeful for it right now. So this hope of peace between socioeconomic statuses or race or gender, where we feel tension in our world, this hope that one day it will be made right. It's not just at the end. It can be right here, right now. That's God's heart because ultimately this is what it says in Revelation 7, 9. And I used the scripture the last time I preached, but I think it's worth reading again. And Cam, you can come back up. I'll be closing in just a second. Revelation 7, 9 says this. After this, I looked and behold a great multitude that no one could number from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages standing before the throne and before the lamb clothed in white robes with palm branches in his hands. That sounds like, man, I want that. I absolutely want that. And we want that too. And it's possible now, but how? Where are we looking for this hope? What is our hope in that God would reconcile people? Guys, the mystery has been revealed. We no longer have to live. We no longer have to live in a mystery of God. How are you going to do this? Because maybe we wrestle with the tension. Well, is it in a new person in office? Is it in some treaty between the nations? Is it between, is it in some new piece of technology that's been developed or new, some new science breakthrough, right? The mystery has been revealed, guys. It's been revealed through Christ, through Christ. It's been revealed to us, which means where I feel there might be. There might be barriers of hostility between me and a brother or me and someone else. Those have been torn down. Someone that I disagree with, they're the hottest of takes with on social media. The walls of hostility can be torn down through the power of the cross. Not through being right, not by proving a point, but through Christ, your home, your workplace, through Christ. You don't need it. Seriously, I'll just veer off for just a second because I know we've got so many folks in the workforce in here. It's not through getting a new boss or it's not through making a change in what you do, right? To bring unity. It is through Christ transforming you, through you. We got to stop looking at all these other places and we have to continually run to the cross. This whole year, our great gospel, it's not something we just run past. We got to come back to all the time. We have to return. We have to see it because it's in those aha moments. Then we take it other places. I know the story's funny earlier, but I learned how to do something. I learned a mystery and I had to go show somebody the mystery. It would just happen. I had to go show Blaze. I don't show Blaze magic tricks. We've never done that before, but I learned something. I was like, I've got to tell somebody. The mystery of Christ revealed to you. You've got to tell somebody. You got to because you're seeing it revealed in your own life. It just has to happen. I love this scripture in Revelations just to tie back to this is not a one day in the future, but it's right now because I was working on this message while I was in Oklahoma and honestly throughout the whole week, but really the last night. I saw, Revelation seven, nine on full display, like right in front of my eyes. Funny enough, one of the worship leaders, he actually used this verse talking about waving palm branches. Like we got really Pentecostal for a second guys. He had us wave fake palm branches in the air. But as I was looking around, I saw so much. I saw people of literally every like, not every, but several tribes and tongues praising God together. Horrifying God in English and Spanish and French. I saw people of all of both old and young worshiping together. God, what other places do old and young people hang out together? Nowhere. That's why these things are so important. Why gatherings of the believers, where else would that happen guys? Only through the cross. What else do I have in common with Philip? Philip says, nothing. But we have everything in common through the power of the cross. I watched a Haitian prophesy over a Caucasian. Where else does that happen? I watched the Venezuelan encourage a Chilean. And by the way, Chileans hate Venezuelans. They think they're scum. They think they're taking over their country. And I watched a Venezuelan encourage a Chilean pastor. That's not going to be on the news. That's not going to be on X. Your grandmother's not going to post about that on Facebook. It's not going to be there. That's the power of what God's doing in his kingdom now. So hopefully you're sitting there kind of encouraged. Like, thank God. If it's like that, we're in the middle of Oklahoma. We weren't in like a Mecca city. We weren't in New York city or LA. We were in like flat Alabama, but God's kingdom is at work. You know what that made me think? God, I want to see your kingdom and warrior. I want to see more of this kingdom in my home and Morris and Kimberly and, and, and, and, uh, in Fultondale and Gardendale, Mount Olive corner, Hayden. God, I want to see it, but what's our hope in to see it happen? It can't be. Our hope can't be in ourselves or some other thing. Our hope really has to be in Christ because it's the only place. It's the only, it's the only way any of this happens. And hopefully maybe, maybe today you have an aha. Moment. Ta-da. Here it is. The mystery of Christ that those who seem to the rest of the world separated, divided far off. There's no way they would have anything, anything in common are united as co-heirs, co-laborers in the same mission of God. That's a loud voice. That's a loud voice. That's something that would have the world's attention, not to make much of us, but really to make much of God. Where we can participate in this revelation seven, nine moment right here, right now, it can happen. So here's my questions. Two questions I really want you to pray on and think through is this number one, where are you trying to build unity without Christ? Where are you trying to build unity without Christ? We're all guilty of it. Where consider that this week, pray through that this week. God, will you show me? Second question is this, if this is real and this is possible, this revelation seven, nine stuff, if it's real impossible right now, why would you sit on it? Why? So you have to ask yourself that God, you've revealed this mystery to me. Why would I sit on it? You might not like the answers that God gives you. I can't give you the answers, but I want you to pray through that this week. God, why would I sit on this mystery revealed? If it's possible, I want to see it. I want to see it. And I wrote this. I want to say it right. So I'm going to read it. The mystery revealed isn't just something to admire. It's something to carry into the spaces that you're already in. May we not just admire that God has led us in on his plan. Ever done that before where someone like maybe you've sat somewhere and someone's like explained, like kind of like their plan for their life and you admire it, right? Or maybe you, you, I being in different like business settings, I hear people's business plans. I'm like, man, that sounds awesome. And you admire those things, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to go and do that thing. Don't admire a message. Don't admire God's plan. Don't admire God's mystery. Live activated in it. Live activated in it. Let's pray. Father, thank you so much that you have chosen us to be here in this moment in time. God, not only did you, you destined for us to be here, but Lord, you invited us in. You revealed the mystery to us. Lord, may we not just admire it. May we not just feel it and get goosebumps by it. Lord, may we be activated into it, Lord. Lord, we want to see your kingdom come right here, right now. We want to see these barriers, these walls of hostility torn down through the cross and only through the cross. God, if our hope for unity is found in any other thing, God, would you remove it right now? God, so that you can deal with the sin that is at the root. Of all of this. God, remove the sin that's in our own hearts. God, I thank you for the work of the Big C Church. I thank you for what you're doing in Move Church. God, that you're bringing generations together. God, even just praying prophetically that you would bring nations together. God, birth in us a heart for those who are not like us. Not as a side project, not as something that's just like D-E-I, Lord, but from a real place of care for the cross. Lord, let us not sit on these things. Lord, we love you and we praise you. And then finally, this, this coming up Friday and Saturday, we're doing a 24-hour prayer here at the church. We're opening up the church for 24 hours. We have a Google form that you can sign up for a time to come and pray. Yeah, there's a QR code too. This is the one time you can take out your phones, scan that QR code, right? And sign up for a time to come up here and pray. Pray for 30 minutes. Pray for an hour. Pray for three hours. Just sign up for a time. We will have like, especially those sketchy times at night, we will have security as well. We've already been talking with Warrior Police Department, so it's going to be completely safe. We want, we're just, honestly, we're just, we want to meet with God. There's no agenda. We're not asking you to pray for something specific or anything like that. We just want to meet with God and see what is it that you're wanting to do, all right? Okay? So use that code and sign up, all right? So let's say this, sending liturgy together, because now you're in the playing field, right? You got the play. Now we're in the playing field, because we're not just sitting. We're active. And God is sending us to do ministry wherever we are. So let's say this together. We are not leaving this place. We are being sent. We are obeying the command of our Lord to go. So send us, Lord, to find you in secret, in prayer and devotion, love and care for our families, to strengthen and encourage our brothers and sisters in Christ, to faithfully work as unto the Lord in the marketplace and home, to wisely steward all you have given us, to recognize our place and ability in our community, to witness of your goodness and grace to neighbors and nations.
