Now JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 began to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111 in the eighteenthH8083 yearH8141 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and reignedH4427 twelveH8147 yearsH8141. And he didH6213 that which was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of JehovahH3068, but not like his fatherH1, and like his motherH517; for he put awayH5493 the pillarH4676 of BaalH1168 that his fatherH1 had madeH6213. Nevertheless he cleavedH1692 unto the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, wherewith he made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398; he departedH5493 not therefrom. Now MeshaH4338 kingH4428 of MoabH4124 was a sheep-masterH5349; and he renderedH7725 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 the woolH6785 of a hundredH3967 thousandH505 lambsH3733, and of a hundredH3967 thousandH505 ramsH352. But it came to pass, when AhabH256 was deadH4194, that the kingH4428 of MoabH4124 rebelledH6586 against the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. And kingH4428 JehoramH3088 went outH3318 of SamariaH8111 at that timeH3117, and musteredH6485 all IsraelH3478. And he wentH3212 and sentH7971 to JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, The kingH4428 of MoabH4124 hath rebelledH6586 against me: wilt thou goH3212 with me against MoabH4124 to battleH4421? And he saidH559, I will go upH5927: I am as thou art, my peopleH5971 as thy peopleH5971, my horsesH5483 as thy horsesH5483. And he saidH559, Which wayH1870 shall we go upH5927? And he answeredH559, The wayH1870 of the wildernessH4057 of EdomH123. So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 wentH3212, and the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and the kingH4428 of EdomH123; and they made a circuitH5437 of sevenH7651 daysH3117' journeyH1870: and there was no waterH4325 for the hostH4264, nor for the beastsH929 that followedH7272 them. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, AlasH162! for JehovahH3068 hath calledH7121 these threeH7969 kingsH4428 togetherH7121 to deliverH5414 them into the handH3027 of MoabH4124. But JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Is there not here a prophetH5030 of JehovahH3068, that we may inquireH1875 of JehovahH3068 by him? And oneH259 of the kingH4428 of Israel'sH3478 servantsH5650 answeredH6030 and saidH559, ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202 is here, who pouredH3332 waterH4325 on the handsH3027 of ElijahH452. And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, The wordH1697 of JehovahH3068 isH3426 with him. So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 and the kingH4428 of EdomH123 went downH3381 to him. And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, What have I to do with thee? getH3212 thee to the prophetsH5030 of thy fatherH1, and to the prophetsH5030 of thy motherH517. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto him, Nay; for JehovahH3068 hath calledH7121 these threeH7969 kingsH4428 togetherH7121 to deliverH5414 them into the handH3027 of MoabH4124. And ElishaH477 saidH559, As JehovahH3068 of hostsH6635 livethH2416, beforeH6440 whom I standH5975, surely, were it not thatH3884 I regardH5375 the presenceH6440 of JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, I would not lookH5027 toward thee, nor seeH7200 thee. But now bringH3947 me a minstrelH5059. And it came to pass, when the minstrelH5059 playedH5059, that the handH3027 of JehovahH3068 came upon him. And he saidH559, Thus saithH559 JehovahH3068, MakeH6213 this valleyH5158 full of trenchesH1356. For thus saithH559 JehovahH3068, Ye shall not seeH7200 windH7307, neither shall ye seeH7200 rainH1653; yet that valleyH5158 shall be filledH4390 with waterH4325, and ye shall drinkH8354, both ye and your cattleH4735 and your beastsH929. And this is but a light thingH7043 in the sightH5869 of JehovahH3068: he will also deliverH5414 the MoabitesH4124 into your handH3027. And ye shall smiteH5221 every fortifiedH4013 cityH5892, and every choiceH4004 cityH5892, and shall fellH5307 every goodH2896 treeH6086, and stopH5640 all fountainsH4599 of waterH4325, and marH3510 every goodH2896 pieceH2513 of land with stonesH68. And it came to pass in the morningH1242, about the time of offeringH4503 the oblationH5927, that, behold, there cameH935 waterH4325 by the wayH1870 of EdomH123, and the countryH776 was filledH4390 with waterH4325. Now when all the MoabitesH4124 heardH8085 that the kingsH4428 were come upH5927 to fightH3898 against them, they gatheredH6817 themselves together, all that were able to putH2296 on armorH2290, and upwardH4605, and stoodH5975 on the borderH1366. And they rose up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and the sunH8121 shoneH2224 upon the waterH4325, and the MoabitesH4124 sawH7200 the waterH4325 over againstH5048 them as redH122 as bloodH1818: and they saidH559, This is bloodH1818; the kingsH4428 are surelyH2717 destroyedH2717, and they have smittenH5221 each manH376 his fellowH7453: now therefore, MoabH4124, to the spoilH7998. And when they cameH935 to the campH4264 of IsraelH3478, the IsraelitesH3478 rose upH6965 and smoteH5221 the MoabitesH4124, so that they fledH5127 beforeH6440 them; and they went forwardH5221 into the land smitingH5221 the MoabitesH4124. And they beat downH2040 the citiesH5892; and on every goodH2896 pieceH2513 of land they castH7993 every manH376 his stoneH68, and filledH4390 it; and they stoppedH5640 all the fountainsH4599 of waterH4325, and felledH5307 all the goodH2896 treesH6086, until in Kir-haresethH7025 only they leftH7604 the stonesH68 thereof; howbeit the slingersH7051 went aboutH5437 it, and smoteH5221 it. And when the kingH4428 of MoabH4124 sawH7200 that the battleH4421 was too soreH2388 for him, he tookH3947 with him sevenH7651 hundredH3967 menH376 that drewH8025 swordH2719, to break throughH1234 unto the kingH4428 of EdomH123; but they couldH3201 not. Then he tookH3947 his eldestH1060 sonH1121 that should have reignedH4427 in his stead, and offeredH5927 him for a burnt-offeringH5930 upon the wallH2346. And there was greatH1419 wrathH7110 against IsraelH3478: and they departedH5265 from him, and returnedH7725 to their own landH776.
