HearH8085 ye the wordH1697 which JehovahH3068 speakethH1696 unto you, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478: thus saithH559 JehovahH3068, LearnH3925 not the wayH1870 of the nationsH1471, and be not dismayedH2865 at the signsH226 of heavenH8064; for the nationsH1471 are dismayedH2865 at themH1992. For the customsH2708 of the peoplesH5971 are vanityH1892; for one cuttethH3772 a treeH6086 out of the forestH3293, the workH4639 of the handsH3027 of the workmanH2796 with the axeH4621. They deckH3302 it with silverH3701 and with goldH2091; they fastenH2388 it with nailsH4548 and with hammersH4717, that it moveH6328 not. They are likeH4749 a palm-treeH8560, of turned work, and speakH1696 not: they must needsH5375 be borneH5375, because they cannot goH6805. Be not afraidH3372 of them; for they cannot do evilH7489, neither is it in them to do goodH3190. There is none like unto thee, O JehovahH3068; thou art greatH1419, and thy nameH8034 is greatH1419 in mightH1369. Who should not fearH3372 thee, O KingH4428 of the nationsH1471? for to thee doth it appertainH2969; forasmuch as among all the wiseH2450 men of the nationsH1471, and in all their royal estateH4438, there is none like unto thee. But they are togetherH259 brutishH1197 and foolishH3688: the instructionH4148 of idolsH6086! it is but a stockH6086. There is silverH3701 beaten into platesH7554, which is broughtH935 from TarshishH8659, and goldH2091 from UphazH210, the workH4639 of the artificerH2796 and of the handsH3027 of the goldsmithH6884; blueH8504 and purpleH713 for their clothingH3830; they are all the workH4639 of skilfulH2450 men. But JehovahH3068 is the trueH571 GodH430; he is the livingH2416 GodH430, and an everlastingH5769 KingH4428: at his wrathH7110 the earthH776 tremblethH7493, and the nationsH1471 are not able to abideH3557 his indignationH2195. ThusH1836 shall ye sayH560 unto them, The godsH426 that have notH3809 madeH5648 the heavensH8065 and the earthH778, these shall perishH7 from the earthH772, and from underH8460 theH429 heavensH8065. He hath madeH6213 the earthH776 by his powerH3581, he hath establishedH3559 the worldH8398 by his wisdomH2451, and by his understandingH2451 hath he stretched outH5186 the heavensH8064: when he utterethH5414 his voiceH6963, there is a tumultH1995 of watersH4325 in the heavensH8064, and he causeth the vaporsH5387 to ascendH5927 from the endsH7097 of the earthH776; he makethH6213 lightningsH1300 for the rainH4306, and bringeth forthH3318 the windH7307 out of his treasuriesH214. Every manH120 is become brutishH1197 and is without knowledgeH1847; every goldsmithH6884 is put to shameH3001 by his graven imageH5262; for his molten imageH5262 is falsehoodH8267, and there is no breathH7307 in them. They are vanityH1892, a workH4639 of delusionH8595: in the timeH6256 of their visitationH6486 they shall perishH6. The portionH2506 of JacobH3290 is not like these; for he is the formerH3335 of all things; and IsraelH3478 is the tribeH7626 of his inheritanceH5159: JehovahH3068 of hostsH6635 is his nameH8034. Gather upH622 thy waresH3666 out of the landH776, O thou that abidestH3427 in the siegeH4692. For thus saithH559 JehovahH3068, Behold, I will slingH7049 out the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 at this timeH6471, and will distressH6887 them, that they may feelH4672 it. WoeH188 is me because of my hurtH7667! my woundH4347 is grievousH2470: but I saidH559, TrulyH389 this is my griefH2483, and I must bearH5375 it. My tentH168 is destroyedH7703, and all my cordsH4340 are brokenH5423: my childrenH1121 are gone forthH3318 from me, and they are not: there is none to spreadH5186 my tentH168 any more, and to set upH6965 my curtainsH3407. For the shepherdsH7462 are become brutishH1197, and have not inquiredH1875 of JehovahH3068: therefore they have not prosperedH7919, and all their flocksH4830 are scatteredH6327. The voiceH6963 of tidingsH8052, behold, it comethH935, and a greatH1419 commotionH7494 out of the northH6828 countryH776, to makeH7760 the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 a desolationH8077, a dwelling-placeH4583 of jackalsH8577. O JehovahH3068, I knowH3045 that the wayH1870 of manH120 is not in himself: it is not in manH376 that walkethH1980 to directH3559 his stepsH6806. O JehovahH3068, correctH3256 me, but in measureH4941: not in thine angerH639, lest thou bring me to nothingH4591. Pour outH8210 thy wrathH2534 upon the nationsH1471 that knowH3045 thee not, and upon the familiesH4940 that callH7121 not on thy nameH8034: for they have devouredH398 JacobH3290, yea, they have devouredH398 him and consumedH3615 him, and have laid wasteH8074 his habitationH5116.
