Every SermonWave device has caption links: web pages that show only the live captions, on a transparent background. Paste a link once into ProPresenter or OBS and the captions appear by themselves during every service.

Who it's for#

Anyone who wants the translation (or the original words) on a room screen, a confidence monitor or the livestream.

Open Devices, click your device and go to Settings → Caption links. In OBS you find the same links in the SermonWave dock under Captions → Caption links.

For each language the device uses there are three kinds of link:

LinkShowsLooks like
Originalthe words as they are spokenhttps://sermonwave.com/cc/<code>/en
Translationthe translation into that languagehttps://sermonwave.com/cc/<code>/es
Translation + originalthe translation with the original line under ithttps://sermonwave.com/cc/<code>/es/both

Click Copy next to a link and paste it where you need it.

  • A link is created once for the device and stays the same forever: after a restart, a re-pairing, a rename, a new event, a plan change or an update.
  • Adding a language adds new links; the existing ones don't change.
  • You can turn a link off (it shows Off in the dashboard and the dock). An off link is a blank page until you turn it back on, so a screen that still uses it never shows anything wrong. There is no "regenerate": the link itself never changes.
  • Links work for private services too. Anyone with a link can see the captions, so share it only with your team.

What the page shows#

  • Only the live captions — nothing else, no logo, no error text.
  • A transparent background, so it can sit over your slides, video or camera.
  • Nothing at all when no service is live. When the next service starts, the captions come back by themselves: no refresh needed.

Change the look#

Under Caption look for a language (in the dashboard or in the OBS dock) you can set the font, text size and colour, outline, shadow, a background box and its opacity, the number of lines (1–3), the position and alignment, the maximum width, roll-up or pop-on, how long the last caption stays (hold time) and uppercase. For a Translation + original link you can also set the size and colour of the original line.

The preview shows the result. Click Apply and every open caption page changes right away, without reloading — handy during a rehearsal. Reset to default goes back to white text with a black outline, 2 lines, bottom centre, 48 px.

Changes made in the OBS dock and in the dashboard are the same settings: the last one saved wins.

Troubleshooting#

  • Nothing shows: check that a service is live and translating (the device page shows it), and that the link is On.
  • Only some languages show: the Translation link shows a language only while the device translates into it. Check the device's languages in Settings.
  • The text is too big or small: change Text size, or the width of the web element / browser source (the page scales with its width).
